INTRODUCTION

This course prepares individuals to manage and direct the physical and/or technical functions of a firm or organization, particularly those relating to development, production, and manufacturing. Includes instruction in principles of general management, manufacturing and production systems, plant management, equipment maintenance management, production control, industrial labor relations and skilled trades supervision, strategic manufacturing policy, systems analysis, productivity analysis and cost control, and materials planning. Operations management and supervision is a fast-paced and competitive field that involves coordinating and directing the day-to-day business activities of companies and organizations.

Course Objectives

  • Define the supervisor’s three roles and his/her related competencies for optimal performance
  • Apply the essential supervisory functions that are key for the success of the team
  • Identify the key goals and requirements of operations management
  • understand the input–process–output framework, the extensions of it, and apply them to a wide range of operations
  • examine the types of transformation processes occurring within operations
  • define the roles and responsibilities of operations managers and the challenges they face
  • reflect on your own operations management responsibilities, if applicable
  • Use powerful communication skills in order to maintain trust and boost cooperation
  • Implement effective coaching/mentoring techniques to help the team progress and grow
  • Apply effective time management techniques to increase the productivity of the team
