Environmental Planning and Implementation
The course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills sufficient to integrate the concept of sustainable development and environmental policy instruments into planning and management
The course starts with introduction and discussion of concepts and principles of sustainable development. Environmental management is addressed in relation to economic development and poverty alleviation. In addition, risk assessment and uncertainty analysis is discussed. A number of policy implementation tools are introduced such as environmental information management systems, valuation of natural resources and economic policy tools, and environmental assessment (EIA and SEA). Finally, policy enforcement, monitoring and evaluation are discussed as essential elements in achieving environmental policy goals.
